Holidays in your lodge can be a wonderful when the sun is out, but staying cool in a confined space during hot weather can be challenging, here are some tried-and-true tips to keep your lodge cool and comfortable.
- Ventilated is key
Depending on your lodge’s location, different sides will receive varying amounts of sunlight throughout the day. To keep the lodge from becoming too warm, we recommend opening the windows on the shaded side when the sun is intense and closing the curtains on the sunny side. Additionally, opening the patio doors can help improve air circulation.
- Invest in a fan
To stay cool, you can place a wet towel in front of a fan in your lodge; this can help to cool the air slightly. Ensure the towel is not draped over the fan or placed near its moving parts. For safety, always turn off electrical equipment when the lodge is unoccupied to prevent accidents.
- Keep cool at night
Your bed linen significantly influences the quality of your sleep. Opt for lightweight cotton sheets, which are ideal for staying cool, and consider using a lighter tog duvet for the warmer summer months. Another option is to invest in a portable air conditioning unit. While this will increase your energy use, it can ensure a restful night’s sleep and provide much-needed relief during the peak heat of the day.
- Cook outdoors
Cooking outdoors offers multiple benefits beyond simply avoiding the buildup of heat inside your lodge. By preparing meals outside, you can prevent the interior of your lodge from becoming uncomfortably warm due to the heat generated by stoves and ovens. By reducing the strain on your lodges' cooling systems, you can also conserve energy. We advise to keep your BBQ’s/stoves off the decking’s while cooking to reduce fire risk and avoid damage.
- Keep hydrated
Remember to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and regularly refill your pets’ water bowls with fresh, cool water throughout the day. Treat yourself to an ice lollie your dog to a Frozz’y dog yoghurt to help stay cool.
